When you have a slight toothache from an erupting or impacted wisdom tooth, there are some remedies you can try using to mitigate the uneasiness. However, please note that no home remedy can substitute for the thoughtful care of a licensed professional; see us if the uneasiness is chronic or intense. Here are a couple of things you can try at home when the pain is minor.
A few drops of clove oil, which contains numbing properties, can be dropped on cotton swabs or q-tips and positioned on the achy area to soothe away the discomfort; do not leave the cotton in the oral cavity for long and do not too use much oil since excess exposure to it can cause burns.
Garlic contains chemicals which fight bacterial infections, so you can use it when your wisdom teeth are infected. Mix minced garlic with a little bit of salt and rub it on the infected spot. Likewise, saltwater also fights bacterial infections. Mix salt with warm water and rinse your oral cavity out for about a minute once or two times a day; don’t swallow the water!
Finally, you can use tea at home to fight the effects of a sore tooth. Peppermint tea is good for numbing the pearly whites, and black tea can help bleeding teeth stop bleeding by producing clots. You can also bite down on a moistened tea bag to make chompers stop bleeding.
If you are noting excessive or severe agony or bleeding, please do not attempt any of these home remedies. Instead, contact our office at 818-761-9526 and arrange your next visit with Dr. Tatyana Kolodner and the Dr. Kolodner Dental Group Inc. staff in Studio City, California.
