If you’re an athlete, did you know your smile could be in grave danger while you play your sport or activity? Well, it’s true, which is why Drs. Izabella Kolodner and Tatyana Kolodner strongly encourage keeping your smile in mind while you’re active.
To keep your smile in tip-top shape as an athlete in Studio City, California, please do the following things:
First, wear a mouthguard whenever you are active. If you wear a mouthguard while you play your sport or activity, your smile will be protected from the hard, forceful objects that hit it. Without a mouthguard, your teeth and jaw can be seriously injured. If your mouth suffers enough force, your teeth could get knocked out of place, chipped, or broken and your jaw could become misaligned. So, the best thing you can do is wear a mouthguard whenever you step on the field, court, mat, or track. You can receive a custom-made sports mouth guard from our practice, we invite you to call 818-761-9526 today to find out more!
Second, try to avoid drinking sports drinks. Sports drinks are high in sugar and acid. This is an issue because sugar promotes cavities and acid promotes tooth sensitivity. So, it’s best to set these drinks aside and stick with water. If water doesn’t do the trick, you can drink unsweetened coconut water.
Third, combat dry mouth as much as possible. Dry mouth is a common dental issue among athletes and it involves the inability to produce the proper and needed amount of saliva. When this happens, food particles and bacteria fail to be washed away and your oral cavity becomes vulnerable to dental issues. To help avoid this, frequently drink water and brush your teeth after your games and practices.
Doing these things will help you have the strong and successful smile and oral health you deserve. If you have any questions about our tips and recommendations, please remember that you can always call Dr. Kolodner Dental Group Inc. at your earliest convenience.
